Penfolds RWT 2018
GRANGE 2018 MAGNUM 1.5LThe most powerful expression of Penfolds multi-vineyard, multi-district blending philosophy, Grange is arguably Australia’s most celebrated wine and is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia. Crafted utilising fully ripe, intensely flavoured and structured...

GrangeAn excellent wine, but not an outstanding vintage for Grange, the 1997 seems a trifle loose-knit and less ‘packed’ when compared to great vintages in the past. Black plums and blackberries are laced with dried spices and vanilla. Give it some time to knit together and drink from 2005–2015.
RWT 798Producer tasting notes: ‘COLOUR Deep crimson red. NOSE This is a unique aromatic expression of the Barossa Valley – perfumed fruit with violet-like florals, dried mixed fruit and exotic spices. Berry fruit nuances rise above cedary French oak. PALATE This has the hallmarks of a great...
Critic tasting note: ‘(2003) Sweet, ripe, very ripe and flashy, with mint-humbuggy new American oak and sweet cassis fruit. Californian I think. The palate is balanced and nicely weighted, quite rich and concentrated with loads of depth. Impressive.’ – 93/100, Tom Cannavan
Producer tasting notes: ‘COLOUR Deep garnet. NOSE This brooding giant releases compelling barrelferment richness, enveloped by vibrant cassis fruit. Once allowed to breathe, complex berry and cassis Cabernet aromas emanate with a background of cedary oak and violet nuances. PALATE Full bodied with...
Critic tasting note: ‘(2000) Very dark crimson/black. Seriously deep and concentrated cassis, cedar and mint on the nose. Lots of typically Australian eucalyptus and mulberry. On the palate tight and classy fruit with a slick of vanillin oak. Quite full bodied and very concentrated, this has real...
Critic tasting note: ‘(2001) A rare single estate wine from Penfolds (who generally believe in sourcing the best fruit from wherever they can find it), the Magill is made in old-fashioned basket presses which are said to produce softer juice, then is fermented in open tanks and aged in 100% new...
Critic tasting note: ‘Seamless luxury from stem to stern, this ‘baby Grange’ is impressive juice. Blackberry, menthol and smoke play unusually elegantly on the nose, the texture is velvet on the tongue with dark berry, coffee, licorice and muted black pepper flavors. The superb, very long finish...
Dark, opaque crimson. Very deep, concentrated fruit on the nose: a seam of rich blackcurrant and mulberry dusted with spice and black coffee. Very tight, very focused. I’d guess this was Grange. Background of cedar and pencil-shavings. On the palate very densely-textured with fine tannins that are...

Penfolds Bin 389 is often referred to as ‘Baby Grange’, in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960, by the legendary Max Schubert, this was the wine that helped to forge Penfolds solid reputation with red wine...
Penfolds St Henri is a time-honoured and alternative expression of Shiraz, and an intriguing counterpoint to Grange. It is unusual among high quality Australian red wines as it does not rely on any new oak. Proudly, a wine style that hasn’t succumbed to the dictates of fashion or commerce. St Henri...
Bin 28 offers a showcase of warm-climate Australian Shiraz – ripe, robust and generously flavoured. First made in 1959, Bin 28 is named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna Vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region,...
Penfolds RWT Shiraz presents an admirable alternative to the multi-regional sourcing and American oak maturation that are hallmarks of Grange, expressing instead, single-region Barossa Valley Shiraz matured only in French oak. Its style is opulent and fleshy, contrasting with Grange, which is more...
